 What does is a Help Desk Support analyst do? 

Every medium to  big  sized company has a help desk support team. This team is the first line of defense (Tier-1) for any issue (software or hardware) faced by that company’s client/customer. 

A help desk team member’s job responsibility focuses around registering a ticket with all the relevant details and routing the ticket to the correct team, within the company (based on the type of issue), so that it can be resolved quickly (customer satisfaction/retention function).

Application Support Engineer (ASE) Course

What does an Application Support Engineer do?

An Application Support Engineer provides Tier-2 level support for complex software issues related to the business applications used by the company’s customers. They’re part of a “Production Support Team’. Issues that Help Desk (tier-1) cannot resolve, are escalated to tier-2 (Production support team).

ASE’s have extensive and in-depth knowledge about the application architecture, functionality and technical footprint. They’re familiar with application’s inbounds and outbounds (connections, data loads, integrations, etc.). Therefore, they are able to analyze log files and troubleshoot complex issues. They also understand on how to reproduce the error consistently so they can test the solution efficiently.

Although, IT background could help but it is not required to become an ASE.

Compensation wise, ASE’s make almost double the salary as compared to a Help Desk Analyst.

Business Analyst Course (BA)

What does a Business Analyst do?

All companies have a business side and an IT side. Business departments primarily focus on ideas to grow the business. Introduce cutting edge products & services for new customers and gain market share. The IT department ‘helps realize’ those new business ideas. Example: A new functionality or product line, in an existing application, could boost market share/company profits, so business explains this to IT departments and IT departments work on the ‘How to Implement’ part. Business works on the ‘What’ and IT works on the ‘How’ part. 

A business analyst sits between the business & IT – sort of like a language translator. Their main focus is to translate business requirements in IT terms so IT teams can clearly understand what business needs. If this so called translation has ambiguity, everybody is negatively impacted and results in a lot of wastage of time & money and re-do work. A little bit of Quality Assurance skills is advantageous for a BA.

Some examples of what responsibilities a BA might have to undertake include:

  • Determines operational objectives by studying business functions, gathering information and evaluating out requirements.
  • Determines technical assistance in identifying, evaluating, and developing systems and/or business processes to meet user requirements.
  • Constructs workflow charts and designs new computer programs by analyzing requirements and writing specifications.
  • Improves the system and recommends controls by identifying problems.

ITIL Certification

Our ITIL Certification Course follows the standard industry course curriculum. Unlike the above courses (HD/ASE/BA) which we have designed and created in-house, ITIL we simply deliver the existing ‘Information Technology Infrastructure Library’ (ITIL) textbook content. There is no point re-inventing the wheel when industry standard textbook exists and that is what is used to prepare for certification exams. 

Fee’s to complete this course is the same as a BA course and timeline is about 1 month.

NOTE: If you register for our HD or ASE course, you will cover a significant portion (40-45%) of the ITIL certification course embedded in them. Most applicants just do the rest on their own and get ITIL certified.
